Do you ever find yourself encouraging others… only to walk away feeling discouraged yourself? You pour into people, lift them up, stand by them, yet deep down you wonder, “Who is there for me?”. Maybe you keep helping… even when it’s hurting you. If that’s you, take a moment and look at the story of Dorcas in Acts of the Apostles 9:36.
Dorcas was known for her kindness, her generosity, her love for others. She gave… and gave… and gave. But here’s something you must remember:
God never forgets a labor of love; just as we’re reminded in Hebrews 6:10. People may forget. People may overlook you. But God never does. He is never late, He is always on time. When Dorcas died, God sent Peter the Apostle to raise her back to life. Why? To show us something powerful:
God cares for those who care for others. He sees those who give without expecting anything in return. But there’s also a deeper lesson. When Peter arrived, he sent everyone else out. Dorcas was left alone with God. There comes a time when everyone has to leave you… and it’s just you and Him. You cannot keep pouring out… without being filled again. A tree cannot bear fruit endlessly without rest. The ground cannot keep producing without being replenished.
So, go back to your prayer closet. Open your Bible. Let God restore what life has drained. As it says in Isaiah 40:31, those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. To you who feel burnt out, stressed out, and laid out like Dorcas; God is saying: “I’m not finished with you yet”.
There is still a plan. There is still a purpose. You may feel discouraged, but it’s not over until God says it’s over. So, put death on hold. Drive depression out. You’ve given so much to so many, now hear this:
Today is your day. Child of God… arise.
Remain Blessed.
